GROUNDSWELL ARTS NSW

GROUNDSWELL ARTS NSW

ABOUT GROUNDSWELL

WHAT IS GROUNDSWELL?

GROUNDSWELL is an arts sector-driven committee founded for the ongoing dialogue, promotion, advocacy and development of cultural diversity within Australian arts and media. GROUNDSWELL is run by a volunteer committee that meets regularly to discuss current issues and how it can take an active role to influence changes.

Groundswell aims to drive change towards a fully promoted and supported multicultural arts sector in NSW, embracing and promoting inclusivity and cultural diversity as the core essence of, and reflective of Australian society.

We achieve this by assisting Government to meet their aims, through advocacy for a multicultural arts policy for arts and media, and by building extensive networks with existing multicultural arts organisations and artists in NSW to reduce the gap and perceived barriers that are preventing the mainstream creative sectors to expand and engage with multicultural artists and arts organisations.

In December 2012, Groundswell: Creative Thinkers, Creative Solutions became an incorporated association, changing its name to GROUNDSWELL ARTS NSW.  Since then, we’ve turned our attention towards strategic planning and fund seeking activities to help establish Groundswell Arts NSW as a peak arts body for the CaLD sector.

February 13th 2014 will see the official launch of the organisation at the Sydney Opera House as well as the launch of a new online home for Groundswell Arts NSW.

THE COMMITTEE:

ANNALOUISE PAUL

Annalouise Paul is an independent choreographer, dancer and actor. She has been creating intercultural dance theatre since 1988, exploring concepts on cultural identity and transformation. In 2013, Annalouise won the inaugural Australian Arts In Asia Award in Dance and the NSW Premier’s Export Scholarship Award for Game On tours to India. She has been supported through Australia Council, Arts NSW, DFAT, Critical Path, Kultour and Bundanon Trust.

Her actor credits include Old School, Days Of Our Lives, Love My Way and Rennies Landing and numerous commercials.

Her strong commitment to arts education, has seen her devise and deliver pilot programs for Australia Council, Arts NSW, ConnectEd and DET and arts projects, working with at-risk and refugee communities in Western Sydney, Los Angeles and Kolkata. Annalouise initiated Groundswell; Creative Thinkers, Creative Solutions in 2010, responding to lack of opportunities and support for artists from CaLD backgrounds and practices in NSW.

CAROLINA TRIANA
Deputy Chair, Secretary

Carolina is the Arts and Culture Coordinator at Settlement Services International, a state-wide organisation that provides services in the areas of humanitarian settlement and asylum seeker assistance in NSW.  She has held a number of positions in a wide range of government and not-for-profit organisations, including Musica Viva, Sydney Latin American Film Festival, Sydney Story Factory, and the Ministry of Culture of her native Colombia.

Carolina migrated to Australia in 2008 and since then has been continuously involved with Sydney’s multicultural arts sector. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Salamanca University (Spain) and a Graduate Diploma in Arts and Cultural Management from the University of South Australia.

She joined Groundswell in early 2011 in line with her commitment to promoting and supporting cultural diversity and arts practice in all its forms.

MONICA SCAGLIARINI
Treasurer

Italian born, Monica studied at the University of Bologna where she gained a degree in Political Sciences and a master’s degree in International Marketing.

The theatre environment and operations have always been quite familiar to her: she inherited this passion from her grandfather who worked as an opera set designer for the local town theatre; she has herself served in the same local theatre as a venue assistant while she undertook theatre studies.

After putting aside her artistic ambitions, she developed a professional career in the fields of her degree studies, holding top management roles in companies in different European countries, ranging from the publishing sector, through to the Information Technology sector and the event-hospitality industry.

She moved to Australia in 2007. In September 2008 she undertook the challenge of bringing the long awaited Italian Forum Cultural Centre (rebranded as The Forum) to completion and then to manage it. In 2010 she proudly acquired Australian citizenship.

She is strongly committed to promoting the Arts as a creative instinct in all societies of any background and values the exceptional and unique artistic human capital of Multicultural Australia.
